Drama Recap: Mr Plankton Episode 9

A flashback to six years ago, when Jae Mi was conned by a woman claiming to know her deceased mother and to be a member of the family. The woman received some money from Jae Mi in exchange for caring for her mother, who had passed away. Jae Mi was unaware that the woman and her accomplice intended to trick her into thinking she had a family. When Hae Jo figured out their plan, he beat the man up. Jae Mi sobbed in Hae Jo's arms as he gave her the money back.

Today, Jae Mi is in the hospital, sleeping close to Hae Jo. They learnt of Hae Jo's brain condition and the poor prognosis for his survival. Those times when Hae Jo was sick came back to Jae Mi. For condemning Hae Jo to die a lonely death, Jae Mi held herself responsible. When Bong Suk learnt of this, she became extremely upset and gave Jae Mi a face smack.

In order to realise Hae Jo's dream, Jae Mi considered assisting him in locating his biological father. For hours, she waited outside his house for the man to come home so she could beg him to do the DNA test.

Hae Jo, wearing a 137 shirt, dreamed of his younger sister, wearing a 139 shirt, while he was unconscious. While seated, they discussed the plankton and how seahorses and fish eat it. They were believed to be at the base of the food chain in the ocean. Despite this, plankton is good for the ecosystem and the environment. Hae Jo wishes to become a plankton after he dies.

Bong Suk is desperately searching for the doctor to save Hae Jo, who is in a severe condition. As they watched the doctor do everything in their power to bring Hae Jo back to life, Gi Ho and Bong Suk became concerned. Gi Ho attempted to call the unreachable Jae Mi. When Jae Mi noticed the car approaching, she attempted to stop it. If the male has no hair, Jae Mi begs him to spit on her face so she can get it for a DNA test. Despite his belief that she was insane, the man nonetheless spat in her face. Before she saw the missed call and messages, Jae Mi was content that she had assisted Hae Jo in completing his assignment.

Jae Mi grew concerned when she saw that the Hae Jo bed was unoccupied. Jae Mi was relieved when Bong Suk and Gi Ho told her that the doctor had successfully brought him back to life. Bong Suk and Jae Mi got into a brawl. Because he owns a pharmaceutical company, Jae Mi feels she helped Hae Jo find his biological father, and if he is, she hopes he will use his fortune to save Hae Jo. The fact that Jae Mi is relying on Lady Luck is unbelievable to Bong Suk. Bong Suk questioned Jae Mi where she was when Hae Jo's heart stopped beating. What good is all the work if Hae Jo dies? Bong Suk became enraged at Jae Mi and forbade her from seeing Hae Jo.

John Na seeks out Ho Ja to console her with her favourite treat. He went over to sit with Ho Ja after noticing her puffing on a pipe. Ho Ja talked about her struggles as a married woman in this family and how, before to Jae Mi's arrival, Eo Heung was very submissive to her. After attempting to keep Jae Mi and Eo Heung apart, she now holds herself responsible for her son's estrangement. John Na silently listened to Ho Ja.

When Bong Suk is not there, Gi Ho decides to sneak Jae Mi, who was waiting outside, into the ward. Before going into the room, Jae Mi thanked Gi Ho. While she was asleep, she dreamed that Hae Jo said he wanted to see the bright blue sky before he died. Jae Mi was certain that Hae Jo had no intention of staying in the hospital and waiting for his death when she woke up from the dream. Jae Mi got a text message at the same time stating that Hae Jo is not linked to the rich man. Jae Mi decided to leave the hospital with Hae Jo in secret because she believes that's what he wants.

After much struggle, Jae Mi was able to get Hae Jo out of the hospital. But due to Hae Jo's restrictions, she is unable to hire a taxi. When Bong Suk calls her and asks where she is, Jae Mi is unsure about what to do. She will forgive her if they come back right away. At this moment, Eo Heung called her, which made Jae Mi even more upset. Jae Mi wailed wildly next to him, unable to envision her life without Hae Jo. How is it possible for a foolish and unfortunate girl like her to live by herself?

After hitting his head on the floor, Hae Jo surprisingly woke up next to Jae Mi. She gave Hae Jo a strong hug after being shocked to see him awake. In order to locate his birth father, the fourth contender, Hae Jo made the decision to search for Gi Ho in order to obtain his car key. They'll make the journey to Gangwon. Gi Ho makes Hae Jo swear that he will come back here alive before he leaves. After promising to return, Hae Jo decides to depart after choking back his tears.

After grabbing the necessities from the supermarket, Hae Jo and Jae Mi set off to find Hae Jo's biological father. They made happy memories and relished the trip. However, Eo Heung ended up getting wasted at a disco and unintentionally called his mother, who was concerned about his well-being.

Jae Mi and Hae Jo took their vehicle in the direction of a mountainous region. In order to complete the DNA test, Jae Mi offered to assist Hae Jo in speaking with his biological father. But Jae Mi was taken aback when a woman opened the door. This woman turned out to be her biological mother. Hae Jo left her at that house after sending her all the way here to look for her biological mother. Her mother now has a family of her own, though. After turning back, Jae Mi chased after Hae Jo's vehicle.

After driving to a location, Hae Jo sobbed uncontrollably about having once again left Jae Mi behind. Eo Heung consoled Hae Jo after opening the car door. Eo Heung used a handkerchief to blow Hae Jo's nose and offered him candy. Like an older brother tends to his younger brother, he looks after Hae Jo.They drive on with their journey.

Drama Queen review

In this episode, we observed folks with a variety of viewpoints. Bong Suk, Hae Jo's guardian, and Ho Ja, Eo Heung's mother, genuinely adore their kids. From the standpoint of a mother, it makes sense that they would feel compelled to keep their children safe. This straightforward affection is what gives the story its poignancy. A mother will do anything for her child, as we all know. But some women would also leave their kids behind for their personal gain. This is shown in the case of Jae Mi. Her mother is unable to care for Jae Mi because she has her own family.

In this episode, self-worth, self-identity, and vulnerability are also discussed. Since there are many different kinds of evil in the world, orphans must learn self-defence skills early on. They doubt why they are here on Earth and battle with their identities. Due to her lack of caretakers, Jae Mi became dependent on Hae Jo after being used for her nativity. The least he could do with his limited time on earth was to deceive her and send her to her mother, which makes sense.

I adore this drama's bromance. Despite their outward appearance as casual buddies, Gi Ho and Hae Jo maintained a close bond. When Gi Ho sobbed, hugged Hae Jo, and made him swear to return safely, I was moved. With Ho Ja, we also witness John Na's tender side. John Na listens to and comprehends Ho Ja's actions for Eo Heung and her family, much like a soulmate would. Ho Ja had probably never engaged in such a profound discussion with anyone before. Finally, Eo Heung acts as an older brother to both Hae Jo and Jae Mi. It's adorable how he offers Hae Jo candy and helps blow his nose.

Some of the plot points, like Jae Mi's actions when she believes she knows everything about Hae Jo, continue to seem absurd to me. Maybe because I was never that interested in their relationship, I have no feelings for the couple. Though I'm not sure how to feel about their relationship, I hope to see more spark from this couple. Something is simply lacking from their relationship. Notwithstanding its many story holes and absurd incidents, the show focused heavily on the value of interpersonal relationships and, above all, communication.
