Based on Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid", this retelling by Hayao Miyazaki is a delightful tale (espeically for a young audience). This is a story of a boy's friendship with a goldfish/mermaid, and inspires her to become human. Hand-drawn, the visuals are astonishing, and the message of how the environment has been affected by mankind's destruction is portrayed nicely.
Unlike Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid", this one has a happy ending. The storyline is pretty simple and easy to understand, so if you are looking for a more complex plot this is definitely not for you.
