Girls' Generation's Sooyoung injured in car crash

SEOUL: Popular Korean girl group Girls' Generation's Sooyoung has suffered a back injury in a car accident on Sunday morning, said Korean media reports. The 21-year-old singer was on her way to the city of Cheonan for a charity event when an oncoming car crashed into her vehicle.

She is currently receiving treatment at a hospital and will not be performing in upcoming concerts in Tokyo and Taiwan. However, Singapore fans can breathe a sigh of relief as her injury is "nothing serious" and will not affect the group's performance in the city next year.

"Sooyoung is suffering from a sacrovertebral fracture from the car accident, but thankfully, the injury is nothing serious," the K-pop group's management agency SM Entertainment said in a statement on Monday. "The doctor in charge gave a positive prognosis and said that with plenty of rest and treatment, she will be fully recovered in no time."

Girls' Generation, widely known as SNSD, is currently one of the most popular girl groups in Korea. They are known for their lithe figures as well as their long slender legs, which are accentuated by the short shorts and heels they favour during their performances.

The nine-member girl group debuted in 2007 and shot to fame in 2009 with their hit songs "Gee" as well as "Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)". Girls' Generation will hold their first solo concert in Singapore at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in February 2012.
